The Sentinel: Chinese food wholesale business fined after failing food hygiene inspection

A couple have been ordered to pay more than £8,000 after their Chinese food wholesale business failed to meet hygiene standards and health and safety regulations.

The wholesaler did not have adequate procedures in place at Jen Fat Hong. North Staffordshire magistrates yesterday heard food hygiene officers found illegally-imported fried dace fish on sale in the store which was past its best before date.

And further inspections revealed there was no system in place to ensure the refrigeration system was being monitored.

Zulficar Ali, prosecuting for Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said health and safety officers visited the premises on October 30, 2012 and found numerous defects under health and safety legislation.

The named business operator, was served with 10 health and safety improvement notices on January 3, 2013. They expired on January 29, but when officers returned on that date six of the ten notices have not been complied with.

Mr Ali said: "In particular, the notice relating to the fridge freezer was not been put into place."
