An agency worker was struck by a section of a portable cold store which toppled while being dismantled.
Nottingham Crown Court heard that Kevin Rodgers was trapped under an L-spaced section and suffered four broken metatarsals in his right foot. He was off work for several months.
An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive found that the dismantling process had not been properly risk-assessed by the company. There was also inadequate training for workers carrying out this task, and insufficient supervision of their work.
A separate investigation was conducted after several employees were reported to be suffering from hand-arm vibration syndrome, which can develop from over-use of hand-held power tools.
One case was shown to be so severe that the worker was no longer able to do his job.
