Two private landlords have been fined for failing to properly protect their tenants from health and safety risks.
Reigate and Banstead Borough Council won the two court cases against the property owners who had not complied with instructions to improve fire safety, heating and insulation measures.
One landlord refused to comply with two notices from environmental health officers relating to fire safety and insulation in a flat above a restaurant he owned. In November, he was also convicted of not complying with two improvement notices to a property. The state of the home was found to pose considerable risks to the health of its inhabitants so officers served him with a notice to make improvements to fire safety, heating and insulation.
However, he did not carry out the works within the required time and the court fined him £1,000.
